Little Sam Mountain is the story of John Dowdy who grew up in the mountains of western North Carolina. The novel traces Dowdy’s life and experiences during the Great Depression and World War II. There were many boys like John Dowdy who lived in the mountains and hollows of Western North Carolina. Although the mountain people experienced great poverty, they were patriotic and were eager to enlist in the war. Dowdy leaves Sarah, his sweet heart, and his own family at home and went to Europe to fight the enemy. When John returned to Western North Carolina after the war ended he didn’t recognize the many changes that had happened. This changed all the plans he had for a life on Little Sam Mountain.
Charles worked as an electrician, electrical contractor and electrical engineer. He began writing after the death of his wife of sixty years. Little Sam Mountain is his third book.
