GUIDELINES FOR SUBMITTING MANUSCRIPTS

Parkway Publishers, Inc. is primarily interested in non-fiction manuscripts about western North Carolina in particular and North Carolina and Appalachia in general. We prefer manuscripts of 150 to 250 pages long - double-spaced, 8.5" x 11" pages. We would like to receive a hardcopy rather than an e-mail submission.

We are interested in books about the history of region, biographies, and tourist-oriented books.

Upon acceptance of the manuscript, we would like to receive the manuscript as Microsoft Word. If the manuscript contains photographs, we would like to receive the photographs as high-resolution (300 dpi) tif files. The author is responsible for obtaining permissions to reproduce the photographs and other copyrighted materials.

Please do not send anything that is irreplaceable - e.g., original photographs or maps. Instead, initially, send us their photocopies. Upon acceptance, scan them and send us their electronic files.

Please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope if you would like your manuscript returned. Do not send your only copy of the manuscript. Sometimes manuscripts get lost in the mail or it can be misplaced in our office.

We are reluctant to consider either children's books or fiction manuscripts. Children's books are expensive to produce and difficult to market. Likewise, marketing fiction titles (including collections of essays, short stories, and poems) is very difficult.
